You will have to apply for your wedding license, and you are responsible for picking up the license prior to your wedding day.
In North Carolina, the license is good immediately upon issuance and is valid for 60 days. You can purchase your license in any county in the state of North Carolina and get married anywhere in the state. I am required to return the marriage license to the issuing county within 10 days after the marriage ceremony. It is your responsibility to request a certified copy of your marriage license from the Register of Deeds office. Before submitting a request for your certified copy, please allow a week or more after your ceremony. This will allow me time to send the license back and to allow enough time for processing.
In Virginia, the license is also valid for 60 days from the date of issuance and is only valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. You can purchase your license in any city in the Commonwealth of Virginia and get married anywhere in the commonwealth. Handled by my colleague, the marriage license will be returned to the issuing city within 5 days after the marriage ceremony. Before submitting a request for your certified copy, please allow a week or more after your ceremony. This will allow the officiant to send the license back and to allow enough time for processing.
